INFORMATION
In geography, a cliff is a vertical rock exposure. Cliffs are formed as erosion landforms by the processes of weathering and erosion. Cliffs are common on coasts, in mountainous areas, escarpments and along rivers.

The white cliffs and three natural rock arches of Etretat are some of the best-known sights in Upper Normandy in France and a popular day-trip destination.

Erosion is a major issue for coastal regions all over the world, and the Sea Cliffs of Étretat are no exception. In such places, what’s known as 'headland erosion' occurs all the time, where hydraulic abrasion causes cracks to appear in the headland.

The Sea Cliffs of Étretat are a popular day trip destination for anyone who is keen on experiencing the austere beauty of nature. The natural beauty often leaves visitors inspired to hike along the coastline of Normandy.

It’s also an ideal place to visit if you would like to see where Élie Halévy, a famous French philosopher and historian, was born.

OPINIONS
The views from the top of this cliff are simply stunning. It is supposed to be one of the highest cliffs by the sea in Europe. Several hundred meters vertical drop. The drive is beautiful, but to appreciate, you should walk on foot. There are lots of paths.

We had a lovely view on the way to Cassis from Marseille. The winding road that embraces the coast offers you some of the best views. We could even see the grape Terraced vineyard of Clos Sainte Magdeleine on the side of Cape Canaille. We were told that it is the highest cliff in France. It reminded me a lot of Pointe du Hoc in Normandy (it is only bigger).

We were in a small group of tour operators. The drive to the end itself was not so long, but since we came from Aix, it took us an hour or less. The price of the area parking we walked to the edge and oh wow the view was magnificent. It was on the day, but I imagine how beautiful it would be during sunset. A group of people were having a picnic, very small down, between the rocks and the shore! Brave. Definitely attractive for people who just enjoy absorbing the beauty of the world.
